"We are a Progressive Thrash/Death Metal group. We want our music to convey a message of the worlds impending fate, and invoke a change in attitude in people through music."
MEMBERS: Doug Friend, Guitar Vocals; Peter Snee, Guitar; Joe Minard Bass; Zach Patch, Percussion
WHERE: Rutland VT, USA
ABOUT: Crypitus is a band originally formed in 2015 and revamped in 2016 with a new line up. The founding member Doug Friend in collaboration with Zach Patch and Peter Snee have reworked the framework for some original 2015 Crypitus tunes as well as an arsenal of their own new songs creating a good array of music. Crypitus is Heavy, Death, Thrash and Black Metal influenced band but reach out to pull from genres such as jazz, punk and even hardcore. When the new group came together in May of 2016 they were hellbent to tighten their sound and play out! After a few hometown shows in Rutland VT they took to take off to the rest of New England. Started off in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and had spread their reach to Maine and Connecticut. In late November they had decided to lay down some recordings to continue to spread their reach and their music as far as possible. With the help of Doug and Zach Norford they have been working hard at contriving their dream with the upcoming demo titled “Exhibit 1: Prelude to the Dead World.” With established hit such as “Breakdown,” “Tundra,” and “Thunder,” the aim is to create a rounded dystopian image of the world to come and how we treat the world. For a long while Crypitus has played out at a three piece two guitars, drums and vocals but since August of 2017 they have joined forces with Joe Minard and plan to slay all the way down the coast as a quartet. The summer of 2018 will prove to be a continuation of the strength and determination Crypitus has shown through the last year of their existence and with the release of the demo should help create more opportunities, more fun and more fans for the Homegrown Vermont Metal band; Crypitus.
CRYPITUS
What would you say that your band has to offer that is different from what is out there?
Zach: We try to make everything as technically interesting as possible. We have a very unique sound.
Pete: We play a healthy mix of a bunch of genres. It’s not uncommon to find a progressive death metally riff right before a psychedelic thrashy solo.
Joe: We sound pretty unique.
Doug: We pull from multiple influences to make our sound original that along with the emotion we put into our work makes us stick out.
What would you say is the essence behind your band?
Zach: I am the essence of time and space.
Pete: The essence of life
Doug: The past present and future of the world. How do you compete in today’s market?
Zach: I think there isn’t as much competition as there is teamwork. Everyone seems to just want to pay it forward.
Pete: Everyone we’ve met playing shows seems to embody the spirit of cooperation and support.
Joe: We work together, not really compete.
Doug: It definitely seems like everyone we play with has friendly helpful attitude. We strive to keep this spirit alive by supporting all music groups the same way we have been treated.
Describe your music. What do you want it to convey?
Zach: We play something along the lines of psychedelic progressive thrash or something.
Pete: Our music’s eclectic and fun while being technical and thrashy. We write about a lot of things in our lives like the state of the world.
Joe: Proggy thrash metal.
Doug: We are a Progressive Thrash/Death Metal group. We want our music to convey a message of the worlds impending fate, and invoke a change in attitude in people through music.
Define some of the goals for the band.
Zach: World domination is high on the list. We definitely look forward to the traveling new places
Pete: We want to conquer the world.
Joe: World domination and an album eventually.
Doug: We are gearing up for a few sick shows this summer and recording an album in the fall.
Anything else you would like to add?
Zach: Always keep a jar of marbles. Don’t lose your marbles.
Joe: A penny saved is a penny earned.
