ABOUT: (BRIEF BIOGRAPHY)
We formed Weesp in the middle of 2000s in Minsk, Belarus and, starting from 2009, have been releasing some EP albums and singles. The band has been touring a lot across Eastern Europe, Poland, Germany and whole CIA. Weesp have released two long-play albums: The Void (in 2015) and Black Sails (2018).
What would you say that your band has to offer that is different from what is out there?
Being different is something that we’ve always tended to be. We make music, combining different rock and metal genres, and we put a lot of feeling into it. We love working with sound on our records, but even more we love to kick ass on live shows, touring, building ‘emotional bridges’ with our listeners.
What would you say is the essence behind your band?
Most essential for us is to stay real, you know; being sincere and honest with what we are doing.
How do you compete in today’s market?
We are in the beginning [stages] of our path in the market. But we don’t like to look at it as competition in the market. It’s more about finding a way to say what you have to say in a way that people will understand and feel; being able to reach them to make them give it a listen. Both parts are pretty tricky, but we’re on our way.
Describe your music. What do you want it to convey?
We love contrasts in music. We have heavy riffing and groovy beats, expressive vocals, but then it goes with soft melody and that quiet emotional feeling that makes you shiver, you know. We love it when music kicks us right in the head and then launches in space. But first of all, our music is dedicated to everyone who is trying to be someone real.
We stand against the dictation of society’s conservative values. Our music is about finding one’s own path, it’s about hard choices, dreams and passions, about being different.
Define some of the goals for the band.
To have a world tour can be considered a goal for us at the moment. Also one of our goals is to get on some of the top festivals to perform. It’s all about being heard, and to be closer to our listeners. This is our main goal.
Anything else you would like to add?
We’re always happy to see everyone on board under our black sails!
